"Your story isn't over, you're just changing the plot."
Feel like your life took a wrong turn somewhere? Like the story you're living isn't the one you planned to write?
Here's the thing about being the main character of your own life: you're also the author. And authors don't just write one draft and call it finished. They revise, they pivot, they introduce new characters and unexpected plot twists. They change direction when the original story isn't working.
Your life isn't a tragedy just because it doesn't match your original outline. Maybe the career you thought you wanted isn't fulfilling. Maybe the relationship you invested years in didn't work out. Maybe the city you moved to isn't what you expected. Maybe the path you've been on feels like it's leading nowhere.
Plot changes aren't failures. They're course corrections. They're the moment when you realize you have the power to write a different story, one that better reflects who you've become and what you've learned.
The best stories aren't the ones where everything goes according to plan. They're the ones where characters grow, adapt, overcome obstacles, and emerge as stronger, wiser versions of themselves. Your plot twist might be exactly what your story needs to become interesting.
You get to decide what happens next. You can introduce new goals, new relationships, new environments, new versions of yourself. You can write yourself into adventures you never considered before. You can give yourself plot armor against the things that used to defeat you.
Take inventory of your current story. What chapters of your life feel complete? What storylines need to be wrapped up or abandoned? What new elements do you want to introduce?
Identify your next plot point. What's one significant change you could make to move your story in a direction that excites you? A career shift, location change, new relationship, or personal challenge?
Write like the author you are. Stop waiting for life to happen to you. Start making deliberate choices about the direction of your story. You have more control over the plot than you think.
