"You don't owe anyone a smaller version of yourself to make them comfortable."

- Ostenako

Ever catch yourself dimming your personality in certain situations? Maybe you tone down your excitement, hide your achievements, or avoid sharing your real opinions just to keep the peace?

This happens more than we'd like to admit. You walk into a room and automatically adjust your energy to match what feels "acceptable." You downplay your success when talking to struggling friends. You bite your tongue when your values clash with the group consensus.

Here's the uncomfortable truth: when you shrink yourself to make others comfortable, you're not being kind. You're being dishonest. You're robbing people of the chance to know the real you, and you're teaching them that your authentic self isn't worth experiencing.

Think about the people you admire most. They're not the ones who blend into every crowd or say what everyone wants to hear. They're the ones who show up fully, regardless of the room they're in. Their consistency is what makes them trustworthy and magnetic.

Your full personality, complete with quirks and strong opinions, isn't something you need to apologize for. Your enthusiasm isn't "too much." Your boundaries aren't "difficult." Your standards aren't "unrealistic."

The right environments and people will celebrate your authentic self. The wrong ones will ask you to shrink. Pay attention to which is which.

how to apply this...

Notice your shrinking patterns. Track when you automatically dim yourself. Is it at work? With certain family members? In new social situations? Awareness is the first step to change.

Practice small authentic moments. Share a real opinion in your next conversation. Let your excitement show when something genuinely excites you. Wear what makes you feel confident, not what you think others expect.

Set a boundary without over-explaining. Say no to something that doesn't align with your values. Don't justify why you're being true to yourself.

rememeber this...
Your authentic self is not a negotiation - it's the only version of you worth being.
